LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Stephanie Polowe upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the 2013 Four Presidents Distin-
guished Public Service Award by the Rochester Institute of Technology

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Polowe has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Stephanie
Polowe upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2013
Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award by the Rochester
Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, The prestigious Four Presidents Award recognizes members of
the faculty or staff of the university who have dedicated themselves to
improving their community through public service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Polowe represented the 16th district of the
Monroe County legislature for more than a decade, serving her constitu-
ents with great dedication and sincere commitment; she also worked for
the people of Irondequoit through her service on its Town Board and
School Board; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dr. Stephanie Polowe was a candidate for the
United States House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Polowe has been deeply involved in her communi-
ty outside of her service as an elected official, working with such
organizations as the Citizens for the Preservation of St. Paul Boule-
vard, the ONWATCH neighborhood watch group, the Summerville Presbyterian
Church and Rotary International, which holds special significance for
her; and
WHEREAS, She has had a distinguished career in education, both in the
Rochester City School District and at the Rochester Institute of Tech-
nology; currently, she serves as a Professor at the University in the
Cultural and Creative Studies Department; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Polowe is a past national president of her professional
organization, the Convention of American Instructors of the Deaf; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Polowe has shown her deep passion for education
and public service through her work on the BOCES I Board, as President
of the Monroe County School Boards Association, and as a member of the
New York State Commissioner of Education Richard Mills' Advisory Commit-
tee; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Stephanie Polowe has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Stephanie Polowe upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2013 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award
by the Rochester Institute of Technology; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Stephanie Polowe.
