LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Louisa M. McGregor posthumously upon
the occasion of her being honored on March 24, 2011, in conjunction with
Women's History Month in the State of New York

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Louisa M.
McGregor posthumously upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition to be celebrated at the Annual Women's History Celebration
at the Cort Club in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, New York, on March 24,
2011; and
WHEREAS, Women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made
historic contributions to the growth and strength of New York State in
countless recorded and unrecorded ways; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the State of New York officially sets aside time
to recognize the unique contributions that women have made to this great
Empire State and its society; and
WHEREAS, Louisa M. McGregor continually demonstrated extreme compe-
tence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in her unwav-
ering service to her community and profession; and
WHEREAS, Louisa M. McGregor was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York;
she attended St. Thomas Aquinas grammar school, St. Edmunds High School,
Berkeley College and FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology) where she
earned her Bachelor of Arts; and
WHEREAS, Louisa M. McGregor proved to be a leader in many roles
throughout her life; she had managerial positions at both Lord & Taylor
and Estee Lauder before starting a retail card store business; and
WHEREAS, Louisa M. McGregor was called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and had always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Louisa M. McGregor was always very involved in her community,
whether helping out with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or school events; she
was involved with several churches in her neighborhood and was a member
of both the Flatlands Lions Club and the St. Bernard's Rosary Society;
and
WHEREAS, When Louisa M. McGregor was diagnosed with ovarian cancer she
decided to commit her life to raising awareness about the disease; along
with the help of her sister she started the T.E.A.L. Walk, which is a
not for profit also known as Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian
Cancer, Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation; the T.E.A.L. Walk
has become the largest ovarian cancer walk in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Louisa M. McGregor's dedication to her family, friends and
the community is something that has impacted many lives; she was an
amazing lady who always put other people first; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, John, and their
two beautiful children, all of whom feel privileged to be part of her
life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Louisa M. McGregor stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Louisa M. McGregor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Louisa M. McGregor upon the occasion of her being honored on

March 24, 2011, in conjunction with Women's History Month in the State
of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Louisa M. McGregor.
