LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of EL
DIARIO/LA PRENSA

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of EL DIARIO/LA PRENSA; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1913, EL DIARIO/LA PRENSA is the nation's
longest publishing Spanish language daily newspaper, and has been the
voice of New York Hispanics and Latinos; and
WHEREAS, EL DIARIO/LA PRENSA has been tirelessly upholding its mission
of empowering Hispanic and Latino communities through information and
civic engagement for the past century; and
WHEREAS, EL DIARIO/LA PRENSA has won numerous awards for its cele-
brated investigative and community journalism; in 2005, the newspaper
was co-recipient of the Jose Marti Award as best Spanish-language news-
paper in the nation, granted by the National Association of Hispanic
Publishers; and
WHEREAS, This newspaper has been a powerful tool in documenting the
social, political, religious, cultural, artistic, business and literary
history and events for the Hispanic and Latino communities of New York;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of EL DIARIO/LA PRENSA; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to EL DIARIO/LA PRENSA.
