LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating P.S. 191 Mayflower School upon the
occasion of being named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School by the United
States Department of Education

WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and  high  achievement  whose
exemplary  programs  and  accomplishment clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire State;
and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late P.S. 191 Mayflower School upon the occasion of being named  a  2012
National  Blue  Ribbon  School by the United States Department of Educa-
tion; and
  WHEREAS, P.S. 191 first opened in 1923; the school pays special atten-
tion to the needs of all students regardless of their level of  achieve-
ment;  according  to  a  school  Environmental Survey 99% of parents are
satisfied with the education their child is receiving; and
  WHEREAS, Located in Queens, New York, P.S. 191 has been designated  as
an "A" school for five years in a row on its annual progress report; and
  WHEREAS,  Less  than  one  percent of all schools in America have been
named a Blue Ribbon school; P.S.  191  has  been  actively  involved  in
community  service,  including  raising  funds  for victims of Hurricane
Sandy, UNICEF, and St. Jude; in addition, the School collects  food  for
City Harvest food banks; and
  WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award stands as
a  resolute testimony to P.S. 191 Mayflower School's standards of excel-
lence, its  uncompromising  values,  unparalleled  dedication,  and  the
special teamwork of its family of students, parents, teachers and admin-
istrators, who share common goals and uncommon expectations; now, there-
fore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate P.S. 191 Mayflower School upon the occasion of being  named
a  2012  National  Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of
Education; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to P.S. 191 Mayflower School.
