LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Karen Hennigan upon the occasion of her
designation as Deputy Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's
Day Parade on March 24, 2013

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Karen Hennigan upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy Marshal of
the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade to be held on Sunday,
March 24, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Karen Hennigan was born and raised in Brooklyn and is a proud
resident of Bay Ridge; her paternal grandparents were born in Slane,
County Meath and Ballina, County Mayo, and her maternal great-grandpar-
ents were born in Tipperary and Kerry; and
WHEREAS, Karen Hennigan's early education took place at Brooklyn's Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School, P.S. 105 and McKinley Junior
High School; after graduating from Saint Saviour High School in Park
Slope, she attended The Catholic University of America in Washington,
D.C. where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997, and her law
degree in 2000; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Karen Hennigan was commissioned as an officer in the
United States Air Force and on September 2, 2001, she left Brooklyn for
Officer Training School; since that time, she has continued to serve as
both an active duty and reserve Judge Advocate prosecutor, and she holds
the rank of Major; and
WHEREAS, Karen Hennigan has been stationed throughout the United
States, in Korea, and in the Middle East; she is a combat veteran who
served in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, and in 2007,
she served in the first ever all female combat C-17 combat mission into
Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, After returning from her deployment in 2007, Karen Hennigan
moved home to Brooklyn and began serving as a Federal Prosecutor; in
2009, she was appointed by the Attorney General to serve as a Special
Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York;
and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Karen Hennigan was named Prosecutor of the Year by
the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation, as well as named one of the Top
50 Irish Americans in Law Enforcement by the Irish Echo Newspaper; and
WHEREAS, Karen Hennigan serves as the Co-Chair of the New York State
Bar Association's Committee on Veterans; and
WHEREAS, In January of 2013, Karen Hennigan began her current position
with Citigroup Global Management, where she serves as Assistant General
Counsel and Senior Vice President specializing in Anti-Money Laundering,
Law Enforcement and Anti-Terrorist Financing; and
WHEREAS, Karen Hennigan is a proud guest lecturer in Ireland's Trinity
College Law School in Dublin, and at the Honorable Society of Kings
Inns; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay
Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, Karen Hennigan embodies the spirit and
the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State
and Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Karen Hennigan upon the occasion of her designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 20th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Karen Hennigan.
