LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David Driggs upon the occasion of his
designation as the recipient of the Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished
Service Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
David Driggs upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient of
the Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished Service Award; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Holiday
Inn Express & Suites in Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished Service Award is given
annually to persons, organizations, and businesses that have demon-
strated extraordinary commitment to the spirit of the Sister Maureen
Joyce Center through their outreach and advocacy on behalf of the poor
and vulnerable; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 17, 1946, David Driggs attended Our Lady Help
of Christians, St. Ann's, and Cardinal McCloskey schools in Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, David Driggs served in the United States Army, and in 2003
retired after 33 years of dedicated service with the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, In June 2005, David Driggs began volunteering in the kitchen
at the then-named St. Maximilian Kolbe Interfaith Soup Kitchen; and
WHEREAS, David Driggs's volunteerism progressed from helping out at
the soup kitchen to some cooking, and then to even more cooking;
currently, in conjunction with the staff, he makes up the menu for each
month; he puts unconditional love into each one of his dishes; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Married to the late Carolyn Joyce DiStasio on December 10,
1977, David Driggs has two children, Craig and Brenda, and a beloved
grandson, Tyler; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which David Driggs has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David Driggs upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient
of the Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished Service Award; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Driggs.
