LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Long Island Housing Partnership
upon the occasion of celebrating its 25th Anniversary on April 11, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Long Island Housing Partnership upon the occasion of its 25th Anni-
versary, to be celebrated with a Silver Anniversary Dinner on Thursday,
April 11, 2013, at the Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury, New York;
the Keynote Speaker for this auspicious event is Shaun Donovan, United
States Secretary for Housing and Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, The leading not-for-profit affordable housing organization
serving a suburban area in the United States, the Long Island Housing
Partnership was formed by Long Island's business, religious, educational
and professional leaders to keep working families in the region; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Long Island Housing Partnership, since its
inception in 1988, has been to provide affordable housing opportunities
on Long Island for those who are unable to afford homes, through devel-
opment technical assistance, mortgage counseling, homebuyer education
and lending programs; and
WHEREAS, Peter J. Elkowitz, Jr. has served as President and Chief
Executive Officer of the Long Island Housing Partnership since 1989; he
holds a Masters degree in Policy Analysis and Public Management and he
completed the Senior Executives Program in State and Local Government at
the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, He received the Harry Weiner Distinguished Alumni Award in
1995, and the Governor's award for Excellence in Housing in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Peter J. Elkowitz, Jr. serves as Chairman to the Federal Home
Loan Bank Affordable Housing Advisory Council, and is a member of the
2007 Class of The Energeia Partnership -- The Academy for Regional
Stewardship at Molloy College; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Peter J. Elkowitz, Jr. served on the Long Island
Regional Planning Council and on the board of New York Housing Confer-
ence, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those organ-
izations and individuals who enhance the well-being and vitality of
their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excel-
lence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Long Island Housing Partnership upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 25th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peter J. Elkowitz, Jr., President and Chief Executive Offi-
cer, Long Island Housing Partnership.
