LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joan F. Waldman upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Ruth Fins Memorial Award by the
Rockville Centre Education Foundation

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and ener-
gies to the service of their community and profession, participating in
civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Joan F. Waldman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Ruth Fins Memorial Award by the Rockville Centre Education Foundation to
be celebrated at its Annual Gala on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the
Madison Theatre at Molloy College, Rockville Centre, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1991, the Rockville Centre Education Foundation has
been enriching the classroom experience by funding grants to teachers
for schools in Rockville's elementary, middle and high schools; and
WHEREAS, The Ruth Fins Memorial Award is given each year in honor of
Ruth Fins who was a founding member and leading force of the Rockville
Centre Education Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Joan F. Waldman has devoted her entire career to teaching the
children of Rockville Centre; and
WHEREAS, Once in the classrooms of Morris, Watson and Covert Schools,
currently Joan F. Waldman serves as Principal of Floyd B. Watson
School; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Principal Joan F. Waldman,
Floyd B. Watson School is a learning institution where children are
unafraid to take risks and stretch themselves, a school where students
are enriched and where their strengths are celebrated, and a school in
which teachers and parents regard each other as family; and
WHEREAS, Joan F. Waldman graduated from New York University with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, and received a Master
of Science degree in Special Education from Hofstra University; and
WHEREAS, Joan F. Waldman's professional Diploma in Educational Admin-
istration was awarded to her from C.W. Post; and
WHEREAS, Formerly the President of the South Shore Administrators
Association, Joan F. Waldman serves on the Advisory Board to the School
of Education at Hofstra University; and
WHEREAS, With her exceptional teaching accomplishments and her deep
connections to Rockville Centre, Joan F. Waldman is the quintessential
selection for the Ruth Fins Memorial Award; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joan F. Waldman upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Ruth Fins Memorial Award by the Rockville Centre Education
Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joan F. Waldman.
