LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing Yunnan Province and Chongqing Munici-
pality of the People's Republic of China as a "Sister City" with New
York City

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
"sister city" relationships; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York believes that it would be beneficial to
promote cooperation in all fields, and therefore, is supporting and
developing mutually beneficial partnerships between Yunnan Province and
Chongqing Municipality, one of the largest cities in the world, of the
People's Republic of China and New York City, the largest city in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, They believe that establishing such a partnership will deepen
their mutual understanding, strengthen their mutual trust, expand
consensus, and enhance their cooperation; and
WHEREAS, They will launch and promote study visits and exchange
programs between all special commissions and representative offices, and
will provide necessary support to facilitate the exchange and cooper-
ation among relevant departments and enterprises in the fields of econo-
my and trade, culture and art, education, tourism, environmental
protection, sustainable energy development, IT, logistics, and life
sciences, among other fields; and
WHEREAS, One such study visit was a trip by a delegation of New York
State legislators, the Asian American Business Development Center, and
the New York in China Center to Beijing from October 21st through Octo-
ber 30th, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Also planned is the visit of the Chinese Consul General,
Ambassador Sun Guoxiang, to Albany, New York on March 14, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The New York in China Center will also help promote friendly
cooperative activities for both sides; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York is pleased to begin this new relation-
ship with Chongqing Municipality of the People's Republic of China; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Yunnan Province and Chongqing Municipality of the People's
Republic of China as a "Sister City" with New York City; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ambassador Sun Guoxiang; John Wang, President of the Asian
American Business Development Center; Michael Liang of the New York in
China Center; and to dignitaries of the Chongqing Municipality and
Yunnan Province.
