LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Girl Scouts of Clarence upon the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts USA WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those illustrious organizations that have had a significant impact on our communities for the last century, and to honor our youth, the leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the ideals of this great State and Nation; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Girl Scouts of Clarence upon the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts USA; and WHEREAS, March 12, 2012, marked the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts of the United States of America, which began in 1912, when Georgia native Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low gathered 18 girls together to provide them with the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritu ally; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the United States of America has grown to encompass 2.3 million girl members along with 890,000 adult members; each year, Girl Scouts complete more than 70 million hours of community service; and WHEREAS, For the last 100 years, Girl Scouting has helped millions of young girls and women in Clarence, and in other councils across the globe, build courage, confidence, and character; and WHEREAS, In addition, the Girl Scout Leadership Program has helped members connect with their peers and create solutions to make their communities a better place in which to live; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the founda tion for sound decision-making; and contribute to their improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor the Girl Scouts of Clarence upon the occasion of the 100th Anni versary of Girl Scouts USA; and be it further RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran smitted to the members of Girl Scouts of Clarence.
