LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION congratulating Jerry Weaver upon the occasion of
celebrating 50 years of distinguished service to Pies Furniture in Lock-
port, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  recognize  the
achievements  of  those  individuals  and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the  entire
Empire State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to  congratu-
late  Jerry  Weaver upon the occasion of celebrating 50 years of distin-
guished service to Pies Furniture in Lockport, New York; and
  WHEREAS, This year also marks the 87th Anniversary of Pies  Furniture,
originally founded by Louis Pies, of Lockport; and
  WHEREAS, Jerry Weaver was just 19 years-old when he started working at
Pies furniture, located at 320 Park Avenue, Lockport, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Now,  just  a  few months shy of his 50 years working at the
furniture store, Jerry Weaver is the owner, and  turned  Pies  Furniture
into  a family business with the help of his wife, Patricia, and his two
sons, Martin and Steven, who run the warehouse and manage the store; and
  WHEREAS, In 1961, there were seven furniture stores in Eastern Niagara
County; currently, Pies Furniture is one of two furniture stores in  the
Lockport area; and
  WHEREAS,  In  1961, Jerry Weaver, a Lockport native, was looking for a
job when he stumbled upon Pies Furniture; he went to school with some of
the Pies boys and was drawn into looking for a job there; he  walked  in
the store and got hired on the spot; and
  WHEREAS,  Beginning  his  employment  in the warehouse, within a year,
Jerry was promoted to the sales department; and
  WHEREAS, From July of 1964 to July of 1966, Jerry  Weaver  served  his
country  as  a  member  of the United States Army, stationed at the U.S.
Army Base in Fort Devens, Massachusetts, as a military  police  officer;
upon  his discharge, he immediately returned to his job with Pies Furni-
ture; and
  WHEREAS, In 1980, Jerry Weaver bought 50  percent  of  Pies  Furniture
from  previous  owner  Jack  Pohl,  and by 1999, bought out the business
completely; and
  WHEREAS, Being completely invested into giving  customers  an  overall
friendly  and  trustworthy  experience,  Jerry  Weaver continues to sell
comfort and customer service rather than selling  a  fashion  statement;
and
  WHEREAS,  Pies  Furniture is a family business and from the moment you
walk through its doors you feel the warm family atmosphere; Jerry Weaver
is not in the business of just selling and putting furniture in  houses,
he  believes in creating rooms for the homes of the people of his commu-
nity; and
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this  Legislative  Body  that  those  who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained  commitment  to  the  maintenance  of  high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and  applause  of  all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jerry Weaver upon the occasion of celebrating 50  years  of
distinguished service to Pies Furniture in Lockport, New York; and be it
further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jerry Weaver, Lockport, New York.
