LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  observing the 5th Anniversary of the passing of
Jonathan Carey and applauding the reforms that have since taken place at
the State and local level to protect  our  most  vulnerable  members  of
society in State care

WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge occa-
sions that are established with the hope of increasing public  awareness
of  serious  issues that affect the lives of our youth from the State of
New York; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to observe
the  5th Anniversary of the passing of Jonathan Carey and applauding the
reforms that have since taken place at the  State  and  local  level  to
protect our most vulnerable members of society in State care; and
  WHEREAS,  Jonathan  Carey, the loving son of Michael and Lisa Carey of
Bethlehem, New York, was born on September 12, 1993; and
  WHEREAS, When he was just six years old, he was diagnosed with autism;
Jonathan Carey died on February 15, 2007, at the age of 13; and
  WHEREAS, It is imperative that there be greater  public  awareness  of
this  serious  issue,  and  more  must be done to increase knowledge and
attentiveness at both the State and local levels to support and  protect
our youth, our most precious resource; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
observe the 5th  Anniversary  of  the  passing  of  Jonathan  Carey  and
applauding  the  reforms  that  have  since taken place at the State and
local level to protect our most vulnerable members of society  in  State
care; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael and Lisa Carey.
