BILL NUMBER:S1560 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to mandatory continuing education for nurses PURPOSE: To promote competence and accountability in nurses by requiring registered professional nurses to complete 45 hours of continuing education every 3 years. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: The bill amends the education law by adding a new section 6911 to require registered professional nurses to complete 45 hours of continuing education in each triennial registration period. JUSTIFICATION: This legislation will mandate continuing education for nurses at a minimum of 45 hours of acceptable formal continuing education ever y three years. This requirement will provide nurses with the most current educational information in their field and ensure that they continue high levels of professional competence. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2011-12 S.3738; 2009-10 S 1769; 2007-08, S.3900; 2005-2006, S.2964; 2003-2004, S.2559; 2001-2002, S.3107. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: Nurses will pay a $45 fee to the State Education Department to cover the administrative costs associated with implementing this requirement. EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect January 1, 2015.

AN ACT to amend the real property law, in relation to providing tenants
of residential real property with voter registration forms
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The real property law is amended by adding a new section
238-a to read as follows:
S 238-A. VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS. 1. EVERY TENANT WHO ENTERS INTO A
LEASE TO RENT RESIDENTIAL REAL PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN THIS STATE SHALL
BE PROVIDED WITH ANY FORMS NECESSARY TO COMPLY WITH THE VOTER REGISTRA-
TION REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH IN ARTICLE FIVE OF THE ELECTION LAW. SUCH
FORMS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE LANDLORD OR THE LANDLORD'S REPRESENTATIVE
AT THE TIME SUCH LEASE IS SIGNED AND DELIVERED BY THE LANDLORD OR THE
LANDLORD'S REPRESENTATIVE TO THE TENANT OR THE TENANT'S REPRESENTATIVE,
WHETHER IN PERSON OR BY MAIL.
2. EACH COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED TO
MAKE AVAILABLE TO PERSONS WHO RENT RESIDENTIAL REAL PROPERTY IN THIS
STATE ALL FORMS NECESSARY FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
SECTION.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall
have become a law.
