BILL NUMBER:S1630 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to veterans credits on competitive examinations PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Veterans shall be entitled to receive additional points for competitive examination for original appointment and additional credit in a competitive examination for promotion. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Disabled veterans shall be entitled to receive 13 points instead of the present 10 for competitive examination for original appointment and 6 points instead of the present 5 in a competitive examination for promotion. Non-disabled veterans shall be entitled to receive 8 points instead of the present 5 in competitive examination for original appointment and 3 1/2 points instead of the present 2 for competitive examination for promotion. EFFECTS OF PRESENT LAW WHICH THIS BILL WOULD ALTER: Subparagraphs one and two of paragraph (a) of subdivision two of section eighty-five of the civil service law as added by chapter seven hundred ninety of the laws of nineteen hundred fifty-eight. AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to veterans credits
on competitive examinations
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Subparagraphs 1 and 2 of paragraph (a) of subdivision 2 of
section 85 of the civil service law, as added by chapter 790 of the laws
of 1958, are amended to read as follows:
(1) Disabled veterans shall be entitled to receive [ten] THIRTEEN
points additional in a competitive examination for original appointment
and [five] SIX points additional credit in a competitive examination for
promotion, and
(2) Non-disabled veterans shall be entitled to receive [five] EIGHT
points additional credit in a competitive examination for original
appointment and [two] THREE and one-half points additional credit in a
competitive examination for promotion.
S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
