BILL NUMBER:S2897

TITLE OF BILL: An act to repeal subdivision 7 of section 7908 of the education law, relating to requirements for sponsors of learning activities which contribute to mandatory continuing competency requirements for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants

PURPOSE: This bill is a chapter amendment to Chapter 444 of the Laws of 2012.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1. Repeals subdivision 7 of section 7908 of the education law.

Section 2. Sets for the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION: In 2012, legislation was passed that established continuing education requirements for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistant.

That legislation contained a provision regarding national, state and local professional associations and other organizations or parties acceptable to the department who wish to become sponsors of learning activities. Specifically, that bill contained a provision that required a potential sponsor to submit a $900 fee to the State Education Department along with their application for sponsorship.

This chapter amendment removes that provision.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None to the State.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as section 1 of Chapter 444 of the Laws of 2012 takes effect.
