S3357A-2011 Memo
BILL NUMBER:S3357A TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the village law, in relation to including a high school member on village boards of trustees PURPOSE: To permit a village to have an ex-officio non-voting student representative of its Board of Trustees SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This bill would amend Section 3-301 (1) (b) of the village law to provide for an ex-officio nonvoting student representative of the village Board. The bill also adds a new section 3-305 to the Village Law which provides that a village may, subject to permissive referendum, appoint a local high school senior to a one year term. JUSTIFICATION: The legislation is similar to legislation which allows students to be non-voting members of school boards. The appointment would be a recognition by the community of its interest in student participation in local government. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2010: S.5866/A.8940 FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None. EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately.
