BILL NUMBER:S3593 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the village law, in relation to author- izing the village of Macedon to hire a clerk/treasurer outside of such village PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To expand residency requirements to authorize the Village of Macedon to hire a clerk/treasurer outside of the Village of Macedon. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section One: Section 3-300 of the village law is amended by adding a new subdivision 22 to read as follows: Notwithstanding any provisions of this chapter or any other general law, local law, ordinance or special act, the village board of trustees of the village of Macedon, Wayne county, may, by resolution, provide that the clerk/treasurer of the village of Macedon, Wayne county, need not be a resident of such village, but must be a resident of New York state. JUSTIFICATION: The Village of Macedon needs to hire a new Village Clerk/Treasurer. Current law states municipal officers must have munici- pal residency. The Village of Macedon has a very small population and this bill would allow the Village to search for qualified candidates outside the Village of Macedon residents.
