TITLE OF BILL:  An act to amend the highway law, in relation to
designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Davenport
Memorial Post
487 - Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Highway"

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:  Adds new Section 344-b to the Highway Law
designating State Route 23 in the County of Delaware from the eastern
to western boundary of the town of Davenport as the "Davenport
Memorial Post
487 - Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Highway."

JUSTIFICATION:  This bill is being introduced at the request of the
Davenport Post
487 VFW as an appropriate memorial to recently deceased members of the
post who served in Korea and fought in World War II, as well as the
many veterans residing in the town of Davenport.

EFFECTIVE DATE:  This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
 the state highway system as the "Davenport Memorial Post #487 - Veter
 ans of Foreign Wars Memorial Highway"
 THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-b to
 read as follows:

 

S  344-B.  PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE
 "DAVENPORT MEMORIAL POST #487 - VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS MEMORIAL  HIGH
 WAY".  ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM KNOWN AS STATE ROUTE
 TWENTY-THREE  BEGINNING WEST OF THE TOWN OF DAVENPORT AND ENDING EAST OF
 THE TOWN OF DAVENPORT, COUNTY OF DELAWARE, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN
 AS THE "DAVENPORT MEMORIAL POST #487 - VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS MEMORIAL
 HIGHWAY".
 

S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the  instal
 lation  and  maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
 as designated pursuant to section one of this  act;  provided  that,  to
 avoid  any  confusion  and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,
 the designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall  be
 one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not
 be changed as a result of this act.
 

S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
