TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of New York state route 98 as the "Genesee and Orleans Veterans' Memorial Highway"

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF THE BILL:

To serve as a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of military personnel and veterans. To honor and recognize all veterans for their service to the State of New York and the United States.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1 - Provides for a portion of NY State Route 98, starting at the northern end in the Town of Carlton, Orleans County and terminating at the southern end in the Town of Alexander, Genesee County, to be designated as the "Genesee and Orleans Veterans' Memorial Highway."

JUSTIFICATION:

Military personnel and veterans are the backbone of this great State and Country. Designating this portion of Route 98 is a fitting tribute to these comrades who have selflessly defended the lives of millions of Americans.

RANZENHOFER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation -- reported favorably from said committee, ordered to first and second report, ordered to a third reading, passed by Senate and delivered to the Assembly, recalled, vote reconsidered, restored to third reading, amended and ordered reprinted, retaining its place in the order of third reading AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of New York state route 98 as the "Genesee and Orleans Veterans' Memorial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-aa to read as follows: S 343-AA. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "GENESEE AND ORLEANS VETERANS' MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF NEW YORK STATE ROUTE 98 BEGINNING AT THE BORDER OF GENESEE AND WYOMING COUNTIES AND TERMINATING AT THE INTERSECTION WITH THE LAKE ONTARIO STATE PARKWAY IN ORLEANS COUNTY SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND BE KNOWN AS THE "GENE- SEE AND ORLEANS VETERANS' MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act; provided that, to avoid any confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act. S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
