TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the tax law, in relation to providing an exemption from the tax on sales and the compensating use tax for equipment or apparatus used for metal fire escapes

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To exempt equipment or apparatus used for metal fire escapes from sales taxes.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Amends subdivision (a) of section 1115 of the tax law by adding a new paragraph 44.

JUSTIFICATION : Metal fire escapes are a much safer alternative than wooden fires escapes. Unfortunately metal fire escapes are very costly. This legislation would provide a small monetary benefit to those who convert from wooden to metal fire escapes.

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : 2007/2008 - S.4107/A.6835 Remained in the Senate Committee on Investigations and Governments and the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : This measure will cause the State a loss of revenue of approximately $700,000.00.

EFFECTIVE DATE : Immediately.

Subdivision (a) of section 1115 of the tax law is amended by adding a new paragraph 44 to read as follows: (44) EQUIPMENT AND APPARATUS INTENDED FOR USE AS METAL FIRE ESCAPES. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
