Memo

BILL NUMBER:S3991

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in relation to certain reimbursements for the provision of ambulance and fire response

PURPOSE:

This bill will require the Palisades Interstate Park to reimburse volunteer ambulance companies and volunteer fire companies that render services to property owned by the Palisades Interstate Park.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1: Amends Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Law section 9.05 by adding a new subdivision 3-a to reimburse volunteer ambulance companies and volunteer fire companies for services rendered in the Palisades Interstate Park.

JUSTIFICATION:

Volunteer ambulance companies and volunteer fire companies in Orange and Rockland Counties render a tremendous number of services to the Palisades Interstate Park, often in support of visitors from outside the region and state. This is an undue financial burden for the residents of the municipalities that these companies are located in as well as the companies themselves.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:

Costs to Palisades Interstate Parkway

EFFECTIVE DATE:

Immediate, with provisions.
