S4020C-2011 Memo
BILL NUMBER:S4020C TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Jamestown Veterans Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE: Designates the West Third Street Bridge over Steele Street and the Chadakoin River in the city of Jamestown, as the "Jamestown Veterans Memorial Bridge." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Adds a new section 343-z to the highway law designating the bridge across Steele Street and the Chadakoin River on West Third Street as the "Jamestown Veterans Memorial Bridge." Section 2. Provides that the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signage reflecting the ceremonial designation of this bridge as the "Jamestown Veterans Memorial Bridge." JUSTIFICATION: This bill is in recognition of the sacrifices made by the servicemen and women of the City of Jamestown. These individuals have selflessly offered their service, and frequently their lives to protect our country. To honor their selflessness, the State of New York wishes to designate the bridge located on Highway 354, also known as West Third Street, which crosses both the Chadakoin River and Steele Street, as the "Jamestown Veterans Memorial Bridge." This bridge bears special significance because of its close proximity to the Chautauqua County Veterans Service Agency, the Jamestown Veterans Administration Clinic, the Jamestown Armory, and a Military Recruitment Office. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: This is a new bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None. EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
