BILL NUMBER:S4360 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Gold Star Memorial Highway" PURPOSE: To rename a portion of State Route 97 from the boarder of the Town of Hancock to the Delaware/Sullivan County line the "Gold Star Memorial Highway." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one adds section 344-b to the highway law allowing for the naming of a portion of State Route 97 to be named the "Gold Star Memorial Highway." JUSTIFICATION: The Town of Hancock has lost two service men in the Iraq War, as well as other service men in previous wars and conflicts and would like to honor their memory with renaming a portion of State Route 97 the "Gold Star Memorial Highway" in their honor. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None. EFFECTIVE DATE: Effective immediately.

LIBOUS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Gold Star Memorial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-b to read as follows: S 344-B. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNED AS THE "GOLD STAR MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE NINETY-SEVEN IN THE TOWN OF HANCOCK, COUNTY OF DELAWARE, BEGINNING AT THE WESTERN BOUNDARY OF THE VILLAGE OF HANCOCK, CONTINUING IN A GENERALLY SOUTHEASTERLY DIRECTION, AND TERMI- NATING AT THE DELAWARE AND SULLIVAN COUNTY LINE, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "GOLD STAR MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
