BILL NUMBER:S4681 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the village of New Hyde Park, county of Nassau, as the "Police Officer Joseph P. Olivieri Jr. Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to memorialize the bridge on New Hyde Park Road, which crosses interstate four hundred ninety-five as the "Police Officer Joseph P. Olivieri Jr, Memorial Bridge". SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill adds a new section 343-yy to the Highway Law, which states that a portion of the state highway system will be designated as "Police Officer Joseph P. Olivieri Jr. Memorial Bridge" Section two states that the commissioner of transportation shall provide further installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated by section one of this act Section three sets an immediate effective date JUSTIFICATION: The purpose of this bill is to designate the New Hyde Park Road bridge overpass, crossing over Interstate 495 in New Hyde

MARTINS, LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the village of New Hyde Park, county of Nassau, as the "Police Officer Joseph P. Olivieri Jr. Memorial Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-yy to read as follows: S 343-YY. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "POLICE OFFICER JOSEPH P. OLIVIERI JR. MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE ON NEW HYDE PARK ROAD WHICH CROSSES INTERSTATE FOUR HUNDRED NINETY-FIVE IN THE VILLAGE OF NEW HYDE PARK, COUNTY OF NASSAU, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AS THE "POLICE OFFICER JOSEPH P. OLIVIERI JR. MEMORIAL BRIDGE". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signage of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act; provided that, to avoid any confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the designations called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway and bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act. S 3. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD10281-01-3
