PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This legislation amends the civil service law as it relates to sworn members of the Suffolk County Police Department who, because of economic conditions, consolidation or abolition of function, or curtailment of activities, have had their positions in the competitive class abolished or reduced in rank or salary grade. Through this legislation, reduction of sworn members of the Suffolk County Police Department shall be predicated upon original appointment on a permanent basis in the grade or title in the service of the Suffolk County Police Department.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section One amends Section 80 of the Civil Service Law by requiring that reductions in this particular workforce be handled in inverse order based upon original appointment to the particular position.
