BILL NUMBER:S4778 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 890 of the laws of 1982, relating to the establishment of certain water charges for hospitals and charities in New York city, in relation to extending the effectiveness of such chapter for two additional years PURPOSE: This bill amends Chapter 890 of the Laws of 1982 to extend its effectiveness until September 1, 2012. The bill would continue reduced water rates for hospitals and charitable institutions in New York City. REASONS FOR SUPPORT: This legislation will extend for two years a long standing reduction in water charges offered to hospitals and other charitable organizations. This benefit for charitable organizations was amended in 1980 to include grade schools associated with houses of worship and has been reauthorized every two years since. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: The statute is renewed at the request of NYC every two years FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: The fiscal impact on water and sewer revenues paid to the New York City Water Board is negligible. EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately, and shall be deemed to have been in effect on and after September 1, 2010.

AN ACT to amend chapter 890 of the laws of 1982, relating to the estab-
lishment of certain water charges for hospitals and charities in New
York city, in relation to extending the effectiveness of such chapter
for two additional years
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 890 of the laws of 1982, relating to
the establishment of certain water charges for hospitals and charities
in New York city, as amended by chapter 518 of the laws of 2008, is
amended to read as follows:
S 2. This shall take effect immediately and shall remain in full force
and effect only until September 1, [2010] 2012.
S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to
have been in full force and effect on and after September 1, 2010.

[ ] is old law to be omitted.
