AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to physician  ranking
  for opiate prescriptions

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 3343-a of the  public  health  law  is  amended  by
adding a new subdivision 2-a to read as follows:
  2-A.  ON  AN ANNUAL BASIS, THE DEPARTMENT SHALL PROVIDE TO ALL AUTHOR-
IZED PRESCRIBERS OF OPIATES, AS DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION B OF  SCHEDULE  I
OF  SECTION  THREE  THOUSAND  THREE  HUNDRED SIX OF THIS ARTICLE, NOTICE
STATING THE NUMBER OF PRESCRIPTIONS FOR OPIATES WRITTEN BY SUCH PRESCRI-
BER DURING THE PREVIOUS CALENDAR YEAR, AND  THE  PRESCRIBER'S  NUMERICAL
RANKING AND PERCENTILE RANKING RELATIVE TO OTHER PRESCRIBERS WITHIN EACH
COUNTY WHERE THE PRESCRIBER PRACTICES BASED ON SUCH NUMBER.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
