BILL NUMBER:S4817 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the town law and the public officers law, in relation to authorizing the town justice of the town of Lewis in Lewis County to be a resident of the town of Osceola PURPOSE: This bill allows an individual, not an elector of the town of Lewis, Lewis county to serve the functions of town justice in that township. More specifically, the town justice of the town of Osceola, Lewis county, a resident and elector of that township, may perform the functions of town justice in the town of Lewis, Lewis county. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends section 23 of the town law by adding a new subdivision 29. This new subdivision allows a person not an elector of Lewis, Lewis county to serve as the town justice, provided that the town justice of Osceola, Lewis county is an elector of that township. Section 2 amends section 3 of the public officers law by adding a new subdivision 64. This new subdivision removes the requirement that the person serving as town justice in the town of Lewis, Lewis county must be a resident of that municipality.
