TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to security services in the courts
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To authorize the inclusion of Monroe County Sheriff deputies as sheriff court security
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Subdivision 21 of section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by adding a new paragraph g to allow a deputy sheriff who is employed by the sheriff's department of Monroe county to perform the delivery of security services to the courts.
The New York State Office of Court Administration (OCA) contracts and pays for court security personnel in the Hall of Justice, Rochester, New York. OCA requires that all such personnel be certified and registered with the Bureau of Municipal Police. OCA has recommended Monroe County to seek special legislation to allow county sheriff deputies to perform court security services.
