BILL NUMBER:S5023A TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the general city law, in relation to requiring notice of public work projects to residents in certain cities PURPOSE: To inform residents within a 1/2 mile radius of the public work to be performed to forewarn of possible service interruptions and/or nuisances linked to the duration of the public work project. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends General City law, Section 18(e), whereby the city is to notify residents within cities of a population of one million or more public work projects that will exceed duration of forty-eight hours. Section 2: Effective date. JUSTIFICATION: Due to high volumes of congestion experienced in cities brought on from motor vehicles on the road and/or foot traffic, residents within these urban areas must cope with nuisances. An additional, taxing nuisance is construction, repairs or other public work brought forth from the city. To diffuse frustration experienced by residents, and to inform residents of such work taking place, residents shall be notified of the approximate amount of time it will take the City to complete such work. Doing so allows residents to plan accordingly and navigate any inconveniences that may be brought on by the public work projects. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None perceived. EFFECTIVE DATE: Shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it becomes a law.
