BILL NUMBER:S5032 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to removing term limits for city university of New York trustees PURPOSE: To make the terms of members of the boards of trustees members of CUNY and SUNY concur. SUMMARY OF LEGISLATION: Section 1: The opening paragraph of paragraph (c) of subdivision 2 of section 6204 of the education as added by chapter 305 of the laws of 1979 is amended. JUSTIFICATION: Currently CUNY Trustees serve a term of seven years. The appointing authority (The Mayor or the Governor) has the option to reappoint the Trustee for one additional seven year term. SUNY Trustees are also chosen for a seven year term but there is no limit on their term of office.

STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to removing term limits for city university of New York trustees THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The opening paragraph of paragraph (c) of subdivision 2 of section 6204 of the education law, as added by chapter 305 of the laws of 1979, is amended to read as follows: Except as provided in subparagraphs (i), (ii) and (iii) of this para- graph, the term of office of each appointed trustee shall be seven years [renewable solely for one additional term of seven years]. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD10698-02-5
