Extends provisions of law relating to the transportation of school children.
TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 552 of the laws of 1995 amending the education law relating to contracts for the transportation of school children, in relation to the effectiveness thereof
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The purpose of this bill is to provide a three year extender for student transportation contract provisions.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
The bill extends for another three years until January 1, 2017 chapter 55 of the laws of 1995 as amended by chapter 201 of the laws of 2010.
New safety or operational developments may be devised during the term of a contract for transportation services; often, these developments may not be capitalized on without causing a material change in the contract. This bill would permit a contract to be amended pursuant to the mutual agreement of the parties to the contract and subject to the final approval of the Commissioner. A further stipulation provides that there be no added cost to the state caused by the benefit arising out of the contract amendment.
PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
The Legislature previously extended this provision in 2007, and 2010.
This act shall take effect immediately, with a three year sunset provision.
