BILL NUMBER:S5509 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 633 of the laws of 2006 amending the public health law relating to the home based primary care for the elderly demonstration project, in relation to the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to continue access to home based medical care for the elderly living in the community as part of a demonstration program. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This bill would extend the demonstration program, as amended by chapter 373 of the laws of 2010, that allows nursing homes that also provide a variety of community based care to provide home based physician, nursing practitioner and physician assistant services to elderly patients. JUSTIFICATION: Some of New York State's most experienced geriatricians work in nursing homes or for long term care providers that operate a continuum of programs both residential and in the community including nursing homes,

ROBACH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Aging AN ACT to amend chapter 633 of the laws of 2006 amending the public health law relating to the home based primary care for the elderly demonstration project, in relation to the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 633 of the laws of 2006 amending the public health law relating to the home based primary care for the elder- ly demonstration project, as amended by chapter 373 of the laws of 2010, is amended to read as follows: S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be deemed repealed January 1, [2016] 2021. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD10820-01-5
