BILL NUMBER:S5570 TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to the designation of technology development centers and to provide funding for such centers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation extends the designation of entities as regional technology development centers. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 provides that entities designated as regional technology development centers as of April 1, 2011 shall remain designated as such through at least March 31, 2012 and that contracts in effect as of April 1, 2011 shall be deemed designated through at least March 31, 2012. The section also establishes that funding shall not be less than the amount received in the previous state fiscal year of 2010-2011. Section 2 establishes an immediate effective date. JUSTIFICATION: The Regional Technology Development centers/Technology Development organizations (RTDCS/TDOS) are designated for five year periods. ALESI, GRIFFO, LIBOUS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business AN ACT in relation to the designation of technology development centers and to provide funding for such centers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provisions of section 3102-d of the public authorities law, entities designated as regional technology development centers, as provided in NYCRR section 5901.6, as of the first of April 2011 shall remain so designated for not less than one year through the thirty-first of March 2012. Notwithstanding any other provisions of section 3102-d of the public authorities law, contracts in effect as of the first of April 2011 shall be deemed so designated through the thirty-first of March 2012 and regional high technology development organizations, designated pursuant to section 5901.6 of NYCRR, shall continue to receive funding as appro- priated in chapter 53 of the laws of 2011. Such funding shall not be less than the amount received in the previ- ous state fiscal year of 2010-2011. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
