BILL NUMBER:S6240 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to naming the Roslyn Viaduct over Hempstead Harbor in honor of William Cullen Bryant PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to memorialize a portion of Route 25A, which spans over Hempstead Harbor, in honor of William Cullen Bryant. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill adds new section 342-zzz to the Highway Law, which states that a portion of the state highway system will be designated as "William Cullen Bryant Viaduct," in honor of the poet and civic leader. Section two states that the commissioner of transportation shall provide further installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated by section one of this act. MARTINS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to naming the Roslyn Viaduct over Hempstead Harbor in honor of William Cullen Bryant THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 342-zzz to read as follows: S 342-ZZZ. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT VIADUCT". THE SECTION ON NEW YORK STATE ROUTE 25A WHICH SPANS OVER HEMPSTEAD HARBOR IN NASSAU COUNTY KNOWN AS THE ROSLYN VIADUCT SHALL HEREAFTER BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT VIADUCT". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act, provided that, to avoid any confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be ceremonial in nature and the official name of such viaduct shall not be changed as a result of this act.
