TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to authorizing the village of Sands Point in the county of Nassau to establish a second acting village justice
In the event that the village of North Hills has two village justices it may provide for an additional acting village justice or in the event that Sands Point has one village justice, it may provide for two acting village justices.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one authorizes that notwithstanding any inconsistent provisions of any other general or special law, in the event the incorporated village of Sands Point, county of Nassau, has two village justices, it may by resolution or local law, subject to permissive referendum, provide for an additional acting village justice or in the event such village has one village justice, it may also by resolution or local law, subject to permissive referendum, provide for two acting village justices
Section two is the effective date.
The village of Sands Point is lacking the appropriate number. of justices which has resulted in overburdening existing justices with unworkable caseloads, delaying justice to residents who rely on the courts to resolve their disputes. By authorizing the village to provide for an additional acting village justice, it would ensure that the village court has the capacity to fairly and efficiently adjudicate cases.
This is a new bill.
None to the State.
This act shall take effect immediately.
