BILL NUMBER:S6288

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to powers of the commissioner of the office of alcoholism and substance abuse services

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation will require gaming facilities to post signs in a prominent manner within reasonable proximity to every exit and entrance of a gambling facility, regulated by the division of horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering and the division of gaming.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:

Section 1. Amends subdivision (h) of section 19.09 of the mental hygiene law to require the division of gaming to provide for the posting of signs in facilities regulated by the division of horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering and facilities regulated by the division of gaming advising patrons where to get help with a compulsion to gamble.

JUSTIFICATION: Chapter 507 of the Laws of 2013 sought to raise awareness on how to access supports and services for problem gambling by increasing the visibility of signs posted in gaming facilities. This chapter amendment represents discussions between the Governor, the Senate and the Assembly to make minor technical changes that would ensure its provisions were executed by the appropriate division.

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: None.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as chapter 507 of the laws of 2013, takes effect
