TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating court attendants for the town court of the town of Highlands, in the county of Orange, as peace officers
PURPOSE: This bill designates town court attendants in the Town of Highlands as peace officers.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends Criminal Procedure Law Section 2.10 by adding a new subdivision 83 to designate such town court attendants as peace officers.
EXISTING LAW: Under current laws such attendants are not designated as peace officers.
JUSTIFICATION: This bill was requested by the Town of Highlands.

Section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by adding a new subdivision 83 to read as follows: 83. EMPLOYEES OF THE TOWN COURT OF THE TOWN OF HIGHLANDS SERVING AS COURT ATTENDANTS AT SUCH COURT; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT NOTHING IN THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL BE DEEMED TO AUTHORIZE SUCH EMPLOYEES TO CARRY, POSSESS, REPAIR OR DISPOSE OF A FIREARM UNLESS THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE THEREFOR HAS BEEN ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION 400.00 OF THE PENAL LAW.
