BILL NUMBER:S6325 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to muzzle-loading deer hunting seasons in the southern zone PURPOSE: The purpose of this bill is to extend the current muzzle-loading deer hunting season to fourteen days in the southern zone. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Sections 1 of the bill amends subdivision 8 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law to extend the current muzzle-loading deer hunting season to fourteen days in the southern zone. Section 2 of the bill is the effective date. JUSTIFICATION: Currently, New York statutes limit the muzzle-loading deer hunting season to just seven days in the Department of Environmental Conservation's Southern Zone. Extending this season to 14 days will provide New York hunters and sportsmen with a greater opportunity to enjoy their particular sport within New York. The muzzle-loading deer hunting season does not interfere with other hunting seasons in New York and this modest extension would help in proper management. of the deer population.
