 BILL NUMBER: S6809

TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend chapter 20 of the laws of 1998 amending the education law relating to the provision of physical therapy assistant services in public and private primary and secondary schools, in relation to extending the effectiveness of such chapter

PURPOSE : Provides for an extender for existing law pursuant to Chapter 20 of the Laws of 1998 regarding physical therapist assistants.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : This bill provides for an extension of existing law which allows physical therapist assistants to provide therapy services in public and private primary and secondary schools and for preschoolers. The extension is for five years, which is consistent with the previous extension to June 30, 2010.

JUSTIFICATION : There continues to be a demand for the services of physical therapy assistants in primary and secondary schools without direct on-site supervision by a physical therapist. This legislation ensures continuous care and client follow-up for the next few years.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : New bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : None.

EFFECTIVE DATE : This act shall take effect immediately and shall remain in effect until June 30, 2015 where upon such date the provisions of this act shall expire and be deemed repealed.
