TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to amend the highway law, in relation to designating the New York state
route 9P bridge over Fish Creek linking the city of Saratoga Springs and
the town of Saratoga as the "Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial Bridge"

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This Bill relates to renaming the
bridge on State Route 9P between Saratoga Springs and the town of
Saratoga in commemoration of the Veterans of Saratoga County.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:

Section 1: Amends the Highway Law by creating a new section 344-a
designating the bridge over the Fish Creek between the city of
Saratoga Springs and the town of Saratoga as the "Saratoga County
Veterans Memorial Bridge."

Section 2: States that the commissioner of transportation shall take
care of the installation and maintenance of the new name, and signing
of the bridge. And to avoid confusion, the renaming of the bridge
will only be of a ceremonial nature, and the official name of the
bridge will not be changed.

Section 3: States that this act will take effect immediately.

JUSTIFICATION:
Saratoga County wishes to rename the 9P bridge in honor
of the area's Veterans, as well as to serve as a reminder to us all of
the sacrifice and service our nation's troops provide us with. This
request was made by resolution 61-12, from the Saratoga County Board
of Supervisors.

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
This is a new bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
To be determined.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating the New York
 state route 9P bridge over Fish Creek linking  the  city  of  Saratoga
 Springs  and  the  town  of Saratoga as the "Saratoga County Veterans'
 Memorial Bridge"
 THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-a to
 read as follows:

 

S  344-A.  PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE
 "SARATOGA COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE ON NEW YORK STATE
 ROUTE 9P WHICH CROSSES FISH CREEK LINKING THE CITY OF  SARATOGA  SPRINGS
 AND  THE  TOWN  OF SARATOGA, COUNTY OF SARATOGA, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND
 KNOWN AS THE "SARATOGA COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL BRIDGE".
 

S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the  instal
 lation  and  maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
 as designated pursuant to section one of this  act.  However,  to  avoid
 confusion  and  to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig
 nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall  be  one  of
 ceremonial  nature  and  the  official name of such highway shall not be
 changed as a result of this act.
 

S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
