BILL NUMBER:S7220A

TITLE OF BILL: An act to dissolve the Bancroft public library and to transfer its assets to a newly established Bancroft public library

PURPOSE: To dissolve the Bancroft public library in the village of Salem and transfer all assets, holdings, and belongings to a newly created Bancroft public library.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill dissolves the Bancroft public library of Salem, which was created by a special act of the legislature pursuant to chapter 206 of the laws of 1851, as amended by chapter 329 of the laws of 1889, and as further amended. It then transfers all of said library's assets to the newly-created Bancroft public library, which was granted a five-year provisional charter by the board of regents on December 13, 2011.

Section 2 sets the effective date.

EXISTING LAW: None.

JUSTIFICATION: The existing Bancroft public library in Salem was created through the laws of 1851, as amended by the laws of 1889, and must be dissolved with all assets transferred to the newly created Bancroft public library so as to fully comply with the regulations that would allow it to become a member library in the Southern Adirondack Library System (SALS). The newly created library was granted a five-year provisional charter on December 13, 2011.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
