BILL NUMBER:S7267 TITLE OF BILL: An act relating to part-time police officer positions in the town of Seneca Falls in Seneca county PURPOSE: To allow the Town of Seneca Falls in Seneca County to hire part-time Police officers who are not eligible to hold competitive Civil Service status. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 This bill would provide that the position of part-time police officer in the Town of Seneca Falls in Seneca County will be deemed noncompetitive positions for purposes of Civil Service. Section 2 provides that this act shall take effect immediately. JUSTIFICATION: Due to the dissolution of the Village of Seneca Falls, the Village Police Department was transitioned into the Town Police Department, but was never adequately staffed for this change. As a result, the Town Police Department must now serve a population of over 9,000, enlarged patrol jurisdictions over 27 miles, and increased criminal investigations with the limited police officers currently employed. NOZZOLIO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT relating to part-time police officer positions in the town of Seneca Falls in Seneca county THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any law, rule or regulation to the contra- ry, part-time police officer positions in the town of Seneca Falls, in the county of Seneca, shall be deemed non-competitive positions for purposes of civil service.
