BILL NUMBER:S7435 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 21 of the laws of 2011 amending the education law relating to authorizing pharmacists to perform colla- borative drug therapy management with physicians in certain settings, in relation to extending the provisions of such chapter PURPOSE: To extend for an additional year the collaborative drug thera- py management program. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Would extend the expiration date of the collaborative drug therapy management program an additional year. Section 2. Would provide for an immediate effective date. JUSTIFICATION: Chapter 21 of the Laws of 2011 authorized a three year pilot program in which pharmacists are able to perform collaborative drug therapy management with physicians in limited settings. The State Education Department recently released its statutorily required report evaluating the outcomes of the program. Initial results indicate successful patient outcomes, including reduced readmission rates, that at minimum, warrant an extension of the program. This bill would extend the program for one year until September 2015.
