BILL NUMBER:S7749

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating portions of the state highway system as the "Livonia Veterans Memorial Highway" and the "Springwater Veterans Memorial Highway"

PURPOSE: To designate portions of the state highway system as the "Livonia Veterans Memorial Highway" and "Springwater Veterans Memorial Highway".

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This legislation amends the highway law, adding the following sections:

Section 344-c, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Lima and Livonia town line, continuing in a generally southerly direction, and terminating at the Livonia and Canadice town line as the "Livonia Veterans Memorial Highway".

Section 344-d, designating the portion of state route fifteen A that runs from the Canadice and Springwater town line, continuing in a generally southerly direction, and terminating at the intersection of state route fifteen A and state route fifteen as the "Springwater Veterans Memorial Highway."

Section 2 provides for the signing and maintenance of these designations, and provides that these designations are of a ceremonial nature and do not change the official name of state route fifteen A.

Section 3 provides that this act shall take effect immediately.

JUSTIFICATION: This designation, along a 34-mile stretch of our state highway system, serves as a small token of appreciation to all of our current and former United States Armed Forces services members, from all eras, including the fallen, the wounded, those unaccounted for and former prisoners of war, in humble recognition of their service, sacrifice and commitment to our Country and the defense of our freedoms.

This highway is a symbolic reminder of the cooperation and camaraderie felt by all American service members, past and present, hailing from Livingston County, New York.

Resolutions in support of this legislation have been passed by the towns of Livonia and Springwater.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
