BILL NUMBER:S7798 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend a chapter of the laws of 2012, amending the general business law relating to the disclosure of social security numbers, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S.6608-A and A.8992-A PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to amend a chapter of the laws of 2012 relating to the disclosure of social security numbers. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: This bill would amend the general business law by removing disclosure restrictions placed on numbers derived from social security number and would permit disclosure of social security numbers collected in furtherance of compliance with a federal, state, or local law or regulation. This bill would specifically permit the use of this identification number. Further, this bill would allow the use of a social security number if it is used in order to comply with a federal, state, or local law or regulation. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: This is a new bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None. EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as section 1 of a chapter of the laws of 2012 amending the general business law relating to the disclosure of social security numbers, as proposed in legislative bill numbers S.6608-A and A.8892-A, takes effect.
