BILL NUMBER:S935 TITLE OF BILL: An act requiring the creation of a list of suitable documentation that can be used by veterans applying for real property tax exemptions PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To allow additional official military documentation besides the DD 214 to be eligible for the Veterans Real Property Tax Exemption. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1- The executive director of real property tax services shall create a list of suitable documents which support a veteran's eligibility to apply for real property tax exemptions. Section 2- Effective date. JUSTIFICATION: For guard and reservists who do not have a DD 214 to be able to provide other military documentation to receive real property tax exemptions. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2012: S.2497 - Passed Senate 2011: S.2497 - Passed Senate FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: To be determined. EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law, provided, however, that effective immediately, the executive director of the office of real property services shall promulgate any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date as authorized and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.

MARTINS, LARKIN, MAZIARZ -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Veter ans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs AN ACT requiring the creation of a list of suitable documentation that can be used by veterans applying for real property tax exemptions THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The executive director of the office of real property services shall create a list of suitable documents which support a veteran's eligibility to apply for real property tax exemptions, pursu ant to sections 458 and 458-a of the real property tax law. Such list shall include, but not be limited to the discharge certificate DD-214.
S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after it shall have become a law, provided, however, that effective immediate ly, the executive director of the office of real property services shall promulgate any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date as authorized and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
