BILL NUMBER:A8837 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the uniform city court act, in relation to providing for the election of an additional full-time city court judge in the city of Yonkers PURPOSE: Authorizes the city of Yonkers to have 7 city court judges. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends Paragraph 61 of subdivision (d) of section 2104 of the uniform city court act, as amended by chapter 493 of the laws of2006. JUSTIFICATION: The Yonkers City Court calendar has become overburdened. The Court handles everything from the most serious unindicted criminal felonies to less serious misdemeanor criminal cases and a very busy traffic calendar to landlord-tenant and civil cases. With a population of roughly 200,000, Yonkers is the largest city in Westchester County and the fourth largest city in the State of New York. The need for a seventh judge is evident and has been recently recommended by the New York State Unified Court System. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill.
