2011-A3620 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Requires a sign on the rear of every vehicle or combination of vehicles consisting of a tractor and two or more trailers or semi-trailers in letters readable from a distance of five hundred feet a notice indicating that such vehicle combination is of excessive length; excludes vehicles or trailers not exceeding 28.5 feet in length.

AN  ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to vehicles or
  combinations of vehicles exceeding maximum dimension and weight  limi-
  tations

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 375 of the vehicle and traffic law  is  amended  by
adding a new subdivision 52 to read as follows:
  52.  EVERY VEHICLE COMBINATION CONSISTING OF A TRACTOR AND TWO OR MORE
TRAILERS OR SEMI-TRAILERS SHALL HAVE POSTED AT THE REAR THEREOF  A  SIGN
INDICATING,  IN  LETTERS  OF  A  SIZE  READABLE  FROM A DISTANCE OF FIVE
HUNDRED FEET, THAT SUCH VEHICLE  COMBINATION  IS  OF  EXCESSIVE  LENGTH.
PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL NOT APPLY TO
ANY  TRAILER  OR SEMI-TRAILER BEING OPERATED IN COMBINATION WITH ANOTHER
TRAILER OR SEMI-TRAILER AND NOT EXCEEDING TWENTY-EIGHT AND ONE-HALF FEET
IN LENGTH.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
