LOPEZ, McDONOUGH, McKEVITT, MONTESANO -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to seasonal registration THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 5 of section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new paragraph d to read as follows: D. UPON FILING OF AN APPLICATION ON A FORM PRESCRIBED BY THE COMMIS- SIONER, THE OWNER OR LESSEE OF A PASSENGER VEHICLE, RECREATIONAL MOTOR VEHICLE, MOTORCYCLE, TRUCK OR FARM VEHICLE WHICH HAS A GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT OF TEN THOUSAND POUNDS OR LESS MAY REGISTER THE VEHICLE WITH THE DEPARTMENT FOR A PERIOD OF SUCCESSIVE MONTHS OF LESS THAN ONE YEAR. THE APPLICANT SHALL SPECIFY THE PERIOD OF MONTHS DURING WHICH THE VEHICLE SHALL BE REGISTERED, AND THE FEE FOR SUCH REGISTRATION SHALL BE PRORATED ON A MONTHLY BASIS. UPON RECEIPT OF ALL APPROPRIATE FEES AND APPLICA- TIONS, THE COMMISSIONER SHALL ISSUE A SEASONAL REGISTRATION THAT SHALL EXPIRE ON THE LAST DAY OF THE EXPIRATION MONTH CHOSEN BY THE REGISTRANT. S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after it shall have become a law; provided, however that the commissioner of the department of motor vehicles is hereby authorized to promulgate all rules and regulations and take any other measures necessary to implement this act on its effective date.
